Myopia Focus is thrilled to announce that our change.org petition has surpassed 1,500 signatures! This is a significant milestone for our campaign and efforts in getting the NHS to recognise myopia as an ocular disease and fund myopia management for all children in the United Kingdom.
We want to first extend a huge thank you to each and every individual who has signed and shared our petition. Your support is invaluable in helping us bring about change in the way myopia is perceived and treated in the UK.
Myopia is a common refractive error that affects millions of people worldwide, but unfortunately, it is often overlooked as a serious ocular disease. This is especially concerning for children, as unmanaged myopia can lead to more severe eye problems later in life, including retinal detachment and myopic macular degeneration.
Therefore, the NHS must recognise myopia as a serious ocular disease and provide funding for effective myopia management for children. By doing so, we can help prevent the progression of myopia and the associated complications, ultimately preserving future generations' vision and eye health.
Managing Editor of Myopia Focus, Jason Higginbotham, comments:
"Thank you to everyone who has taken the time to sign and share our petition. The fact that we have received over 1500 signatures is a testament to the concern and support of people worldwide for this issue. If you can, please ask others to sign and share so we can gain momentum and reach enough signatures to make a real difference."
