Opportunity for Parents: Red Light Therapy Clinical Trial for Myopia at Moorfields

At Myopia Focus, we are committed to keeping parents informed about the latest developments in myopia management.

We are therefore pleased to share information about a new clinical trial currently being conducted at Moorfields Eye Hospital, one of the UK's leading centres for eye research.

Dr Annegret Dahlmann-Noor, a respected paediatric ophthalmologist and member of Myopia Focus's Advisory Committee, is leading a study into the use of red light therapy as a possible way to slow the progression of myopia in children.

What is Red Light Therapy?

Red light therapy involves exposing the eyes to a specific wavelength of low-level red light. Research from other parts of the world, particularly in Asia, has suggested that this approach may help slow eye growth and reduce the progression of myopia.

In the UK, this technique is still relatively new and is currently considered investigational, which makes participation in this study an opportunity to access a potential new approach under careful clinical supervision.

Who Can Participate?

The clinical trial is open to children who meet certain eligibility criteria. Families who take part will have access to regular monitoring and support from a specialist team at Moorfields, which ensures that any changes in vision are carefully assessed and managed throughout the study. They can also withdraw at any time.

How to Find Out More

If you would like to find out more about the trial and whether it might be suitable for your child, you can visit redlightmyopia.com.

Participation in a clinical trial is a significant decision and we would always recommend that you discuss it with your child’s optometrist or ophthalmologist beforehand to ensure it is appropriate for your child's needs.
