Hi All,
I am trying to understand if offering myopia management is commercially viable. I was wondering if anyone had any advice or guidance on introducing myopia management into a practice and how they have tackled it.
What services have you offered?
What investment in systems, technology was required?
How have you marketed it?
What has the uptake been like?
Thanks
Tim
It's possible to undertake myopia management pretty much as you are. However, most people would argue that you really need to have better understanding of axial length and also software to predict likely myopia status in the future based on no treatment and predictions for the affect of treatments.
This will help you more robustly understand the patient's risks, communicate them, plan the right therapy(s) and monitor the success or otherwise of any interventions.
This normally requires investment in equipment including optical biometry and perhaps corneal topography if you intend to fit Orthokeratology (which I would argue you should).
The cost of therapies is quite high, but patients can be placed on regular 'eye plan' payment schemes, spreading the cost and improving practice cash flow over time.
